Chad vice-premier minister assesses regional governance in Moundou
Report from Moundou
The Vice-Prime Minister of Chad responsible for Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, on an official visit to assess regional governance. The two-day mission, concluding today, brought together government delegates, provincial prefects, urban mayors, council presidents, and elected officials from southern provinces.
The gathering, held at the Logone Occidental Provincial Council headquarters, kicked off with welcoming remarks from Dago Yacoub, the government delegate for Logone Occidental. He emphasized how these discussions would provide central authorities with deeper insights into local challenges and pressing citizen needs. “This mission allows the leadership to experience firsthand the realities on the ground,” he stated, highlighting its potential to deliver tailored solutions.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Prime Minister Limane Mahamat underscored the southern region’s vital role in Chad’s economy, calling it the nation’s “breadbasket” for its critical contribution to food security. However, he also highlighted persistent security concerns, including farmer-herder clashes, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking. These issues, he noted, threaten social cohesion and deepen divisions within communities.
Through this initiative, authorities aim to bolster local governance, strengthen coordination between central and local administrations, and address the region’s most urgent priorities.
