Abidjan – The second edition of the International Forum on Trades and Skills (FIMEC) kicks off in Abidjan on July 15 and 16, 2026, under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé. This high-profile gathering aims to position vocational training as a cornerstone for boosting employment, economic competitiveness, and sustainable growth in Côte d’Ivoire.

The event, organized by the National Agency for Vocational Training (AGEFOP) and backed by the Ministry of Employment, Social Protection, and Vocational Training, centers on the theme: “skills, employment, and economic transformation in Africa: the strategic role of vocational training.”

This year’s forum arrives at a pivotal moment, following the recent integration of vocational training into the Ministry of Employment portfolio. This reform underscores the government’s commitment to crafting a unified public policy that bridges skill development, decent employment, and worker protection—all aimed at nurturing human capital for national progress.

The initiative aligns with the national development plan (PND) for 2026–2030, which identifies human capital as a critical driver of Côte d’Ivoire’s structural economic transformation. With over $80 billion mobilized by technical and financial partners to support the PND, the forum highlights the urgent need to align skills development with economic demands to turn investments into inclusive growth, sustainable jobs, and shared prosperity.

Expert discussions and hands-on learning

Over two days, FIMEC will bring together government officials, diplomats, international organization leaders, technical partners, business leaders, researchers, and vocational training stakeholders. The agenda includes high-level panels, masterclasses, technical workshops, skill demonstrations, and networking spaces designed to connect businesses with learners.

Key topics on the table include the impact of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green skills, soft skills, and evolving job markets. The goal is to equip young people, workers, and enterprises with the tools needed to navigate today’s rapidly changing employment landscape.

Success stories take center stage

The forum will also showcase inspiring profiles of individuals who have leveraged vocational training to enhance employability, launch businesses, and align their skills with market needs. These stories will underscore the transformative power of practical, targeted education in shaping careers and fueling economic progress.
