The Ministry of Mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo recently hosted a prestigious awards ceremony, recognizing top talent for their contributions to the nation’s vital DRC mining sector. Held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Pullman Grand Hôtel in Kinshasa, the event celebrated the winners of the “BUANYA” excellence competition. This initiative, spearheaded by Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba, aimed to engage graduates from the National School of Administration (ENA) in developing strategic solutions for the Congolese mineral industry.
Distinguished guests, including the Secretary-General for Mines, various heads of supervisory bodies, and esteemed jury members, gathered alongside the participating ENA graduates. The highlight of the evening was the eagerly anticipated announcement of results and the presentation of awards to the successful teams, marking a significant moment for the future of the DRC mining sector.
For several weeks leading up to the ceremony, a total of 48 ENA graduates, organized into six distinct teams, undertook extensive research and in-depth analysis. Their focus areas encompassed critical aspects of the mining industry, such as robust mining governance, ensuring transparency and traceability of mineral resources, combating illicit activities and fraud, supervising artisanal mining operations, advancing geological exploration, fostering equitable distribution of sector revenues, and initiating new mining ventures. These efforts underscore a commitment to strengthening the African economy today through strategic resource management.
Minister Watum Kabamba emphasized the Democratic Republic of Congo’s pivotal role in the global energy transition. He reiterated that this strategic position carries a profound responsibility: to transform the nation’s vast mineral wealth into powerful engines of development. This transformation, he asserted, must generate sustainable employment, facilitate modern infrastructure, and deliver high-quality social services across the country, contributing significantly to pan-African news on economic progress.
Furthermore, the Minister urged the distinguished laureates to embody excellence, integrity, and a spirit of transformative change. He firmly stated that the future of mining governance in the DRC must be built upon the pillars of meritocracy, innovative approaches, unwavering transparency, and a steadfast commitment to achieving tangible results.
