Yesterday’s official engagements for Gabon’s Head of State carried significant political weight. Following a meeting with the African Union (AU) Commission President’s special envoy for the Gabon-Equatorial Guinea border dispute, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema also held discussions with Mohamed Idrissa Farah, the AU Commission’s special envoy for Madagascar, and Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, the United Nations Secretary-General’s special representative to the AU.

These crucial dialogues are integral to the ongoing Refoundation process in Madagascar, a strategic initiative aimed at drawing inspiration from Gabon’s experience in managing its own political transition. The Gabonese leader outlined to his distinguished guests the core commitments underpinning Gabon’s transition, emphasizing principles of inclusivity, adherence to pledges, the organization of a national dialogue, and the unwavering preservation of peace, national unity, and social cohesion.

These elements, he underscored, formed the bedrock for conducting free, transparent, peaceful, credible, and universally accepted elections. This path ultimately led to a restoration of constitutional order, the re-establishment of institutions, and the reaffirmation of the Gabonese people’s dignity, all bolstered by comprehensive reforms. These reforms have impacted various sectors of society, significantly enhancing electoral transparency and solidifying national sovereignty, while simultaneously rebuilding public trust in state institutions.

Mohamed Idrissa Farah and Parfait Onanga-Anyanga commended Gabon’s successful transition, recognizing it as a pivotal model for numerous states across the African continent and beyond. Notably, the Republic of Madagascar is embarking on a similar journey under the leadership of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina. During his recent visit to our nation, Colonel Randrianirina lauded Gabon’s achievements and praised the quality of its infrastructure, particularly mentioning the impressive Omar-Bongo-Ondimba Congress Palace.
