Institutional progress and national cohesion

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo inaugurated the steering council of the Institut des Peuples Noirs (IPN-Farafina), bringing together diverse leaders to shape the institution’s future. This council will guide the institute in promoting indigenous values and enhancing the global visibility of Black communities.

As part of the Progressive Popular Revolution, about sixty presidential staff members embarked on a 21-day immersion program blending patriotism and military training. The initiative aims to instill discipline, sacrifice, and unity among government officials and defense forces.

Security cooperation and regional partnerships

Ouagadougou hosted Sahel security ministers for talks with President Captain Ibrahim Traoré. Discussions centered on strengthening security cooperation, ensuring seamless movement of people and goods, and aligning control mechanisms within the confederation.

Economic reforms and sectoral advancements

The July 2 cabinet meeting approved key measures, including the launch of the Faso Technological Academy. This institution will train high-level professionals in critical fields such as cybersecurity, nuclear energy, aeronautics, and mining.

A new regulatory body, CIM-SAHEL, was established to oversee the cement market and curb price speculation. Additional reforms addressed administrative work schedules and introduced a humanitarian intervention framework focused on empowering vulnerable groups.

Agricultural support and women-led initiatives

Prime Minister Ouédraogo visited Yibi’s lowland rice fields in Arbollé, where 90% of the land is cultivated by women. This project, part of the Tin Taan Soani initiative, underscores the government’s commitment to boosting domestic food production.

Safety and urban renewal

The Laabal Brigade launched a cleanup operation at Ouagadougou’s 10 Yaar market to remove unauthorized structures under high-voltage lines, a hazard for both vendors and residents.

Financial stability and regional coordination

The second ordinary session of the West African Monetary Union (UMOA) Council concluded in Ouagadougou. Ministers adopted reforms covering veterinary medicines, financial stability, and community partnerships.

The Mobile Brigade for Fraud Control and Suppression confirmed that beer prices remained stable at authorized producers and distributors, despite unofficial hikes in some outlets.

Honoring legacy and environmental action

The ninth military tribute to Captain Thomas Sankara and his comrades was held under the theme of integrity, celebrating the ideals of Burkina Faso’s revolutionary leader.

The first edition of the Environmental and Eco-Citizenship Week (SECO 2026) concluded with the introduction of the Faso Vert Prize, aimed at rewarding green initiatives nationwide.

Culture and tourism revival

Samendeni in the Guiriko region hosted the kickoff of the fourth edition of the Great Season of Domestic Tourism. Over three months, Burkinabè are encouraged to explore the country’s cultural and natural treasures, fostering local tourism and regional development.

Sports triumph

Burkinabè boxer Abel Hamed Nikiema claimed the WBA Africa title after defeating Benin’s Dossou Faustin Houenou in Ouagadougou. This continental victory positions the athlete for future international opportunities.
