The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has officially turned down Olympique Lyonnais’ (OL) appeal to defer their inaugural Ligue 1 fixture of the upcoming season. The Lyon-based club had sought a postponement for their match against Toulouse, initially slated for August 22, 2026.
OL’s rationale behind the request stemmed from their potential commitments in the UEFA Champions League. Should the club successfully navigate the third preliminary round of the prestigious European competition, they would then face a crucial playoff tie. This potential fixture clash prompted their plea for a revised domestic schedule.
Despite the club’s strategic considerations, the LFP has maintained its stance, ensuring the Ligue 1 calendar remains as planned. The opening weekend of the French top flight is set to commence between August 21 and August 23, 2026. Olympique Lyonnais is therefore expected to travel to Toulouse for their initial league encounter, a match that will now proceed on its original date following the league’s firm decision.
