Manchester City poised to shatter Premier League transfer record for Elliot Anderson
Manchester City has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to secure the signing of midfielder Elliot Anderson, with reports indicating a potential transfer fee of up to £130 million. The deal, which is now in its final stages, follows weeks of intense negotiations and has received clearance from both clubs.
Anderson, who has requested to leave Nottingham Forest, is set to undergo a medical examination in the United States before the transfer is officially completed. The player and Manchester City have already agreed terms, leaving only the final administrative steps to finalize the move.
The most expensive Premier League signing ever
If finalized, this deal would make Elliot Anderson the most expensive player in Premier League history. The current record is held by Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for £125 million (approximately €145 million).
Anderson would also surpass Declan Rice as the most expensive British footballer ever, with Arsenal’s £105 million (around €122 million) acquisition of Rice from West Ham in 2023 currently holding that record.
From Forest to the Three Lions: Anderson’s rise to prominence
Anderson, who began his career at Newcastle United, made the move to Nottingham Forest in 2024 for £40 million. His performances at the City Ground quickly established him as a key figure in midfield, both for his club and the England national team, with whom he is currently competing in the World Cup.
The 24-year-old has already featured prominently for England, starting both of the team’s opening matches in the tournament. His standout contribution came in the 4-2 victory over Croatia, where he provided the assist for one of the goals. Manchester City sees him as a cornerstone of their rebuilding project under new manager Enzo Maresca, and a deal is expected to be completed shortly after the World Cup concludes.
