Morocco joins the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean
The North African kingdom has secured a seat on the Assembly’s Bureau and will lead the Artificial Intelligence Commission, underscoring the growing influence of Moroccan parliamentary diplomacy within this Euro-Mediterranean institution.

A Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part in the 10th Summit of Parliament Presidents and the 19th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), held Saturday and Sunday at the headquarters of Egypt’s Parliament in the country’s new administrative capital.
Led by Abdelmajid Fassi Fihri, Vice President of the House of Representatives, the delegation seized the opportunity to bolster Rabat’s presence within the PA-UfM’s key bodies.
During the event, a meeting of the Bureau and the expanded Bureau took place, where the plenary session approved the new composition of the PA-UfM Bureau for 2026–2030, along with the chairs of the permanent commissions.
Morocco was elected to the Assembly’s Bureau and entrusted with chairing the Artificial Intelligence Commission, a move widely seen as a vote of confidence in the country’s parliamentary diplomacy and its rising profile within this Euro-Mediterranean body.
Fassi Fihri, speaking on behalf of Morocco’s Parliament, emphasized that the PA-UfM remains a vital framework for strengthening dialogue and cooperation between the parliaments on both sides of the Mediterranean.
He highlighted that the chosen themes—artificial intelligence, youth engagement, and parliamentary diplomacy for peace and stability in the Middle East—reflect a shared awareness among Euro-Mediterranean parliamentarians. These issues transcend mere technological shifts, touching on deeper transformations in cultural sensitivities, geopolitical influence, and decision-making mechanisms.
Fassi Fihri stressed that under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to modernize its economy, reinforce digital transformation, and develop technological infrastructure. This strategic approach positions knowledge-based economy as a key driver of sustainable development, economic competitiveness, and Morocco’s standing as a reliable partner across the Mediterranean, Africa, and beyond.
The Moroccan delegation, which included Chaoui Belassal, Meriem Rmili, Houria Didi, Rabab Aïlal, Salwa Demnati, and Ibrahim Aâba, actively participated in meetings of various bodies and commissions. They contributed to discussions on critical priorities for the Mediterranean region: parliamentary diplomacy, artificial intelligence, youth participation in decision-making, and the strengthening of security, stability, and shared development.
The sessions concluded with a call to maintain parliamentary coordination among member states and to reinforce the PA-UfM’s role as a platform for dialogue and trust, dedicated to advancing security, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity throughout the Mediterranean.
