Nantes vs toulouse match abandoned after pitch invasion and smoke bombs
A Ligue 1 fixture between Nantes and Toulouse was abandoned just 20 minutes into play following pitch invasions and smoke bomb incidents at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

A chaotic evening unfolded in Nantes on Sunday as a Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse was brought to an abrupt halt. The match, part of the 34th and final matchday of the season, was interrupted in the 22nd minute after supporters from the Tribune Loire stand released smoke bombs onto the pitch and invaded the playing surface.
The deployment of around 100 riot police (CRS) units failed to prevent the disruption, as the officers were stationed on the opposite side of the stadium at the time of the incidents. Vahid Halilhodzic, the 74-year-old coach leading what would be his final match in charge, remained on the field attempting to confront the intruders before being restrained by stewards. Earlier in the game, he had been the sole figure greeted with applause by the Brigade Loire ultras.
Players from Nantes were seen urging family members to leave the stadium as confrontations escalated. After approximately ten minutes of clashes, riot police attempted to enter the Tribune Loire stand but were repelled by masked leaders in violent exchanges. Seats were ripped from the stands and hurled at the CRS units while the rest of the stadium watched in stunned silence.
Coach Halilhodzic returned to the touchline after the initial disturbances, offering to confront the supporters directly. When warned of the danger, he questioned their intentions: “What are they going to do?” he reportedly responded. The situation remains fluid, with discussions underway involving Ligue 1 officials and local authorities to determine the match’s fate. As of 9:45 PM, play had not resumed.
