Dakar — The National Assembly of Senegal has adopted a packed legislative schedule following the Presidents’ Conference (CDP) on Friday, June 19. Draft laws on the Labor Code and Social Security Code will be reviewed in committee this Saturday, June 20, before heading to the plenary session on Monday, June 22.

Constitutional revision takes center stage

Amid this legislative momentum, the spotlight remains firmly on the constitutional reform proposal. Ousmane Sonko, Speaker of the National Assembly, addressed the Bureau members with a critical update: he has yet to receive any feedback from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye regarding the mandatory opinion formally submitted to the Executive branch.

The absence of a response from the presidency has prompted Sonko to set a firm deadline: Monday, June 22. If no reply is received by this date, the Assembly’s Bureau will convene immediately to advance the legislative process, regardless of the Executive’s position. Sonko has made it clear that the constitutional reform must be examined and voted on before the current ordinary session concludes.

Legislative and financial priorities

During the meeting, the Speaker also emphasized the Assembly’s continued wait for two major financial texts—already approved by the Council of Ministers. These include the Rectified Finance Law (LFR) and the Budget Orientation Debate (DOB) document. The clock is now ticking between the legislative and executive branches.

The coming days promise intense negotiations as both branches navigate their respective priorities.
