In a stirring address delivered in Sadio, Diourbel region, this past Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party, took aim at the current governance trajectory, voicing sharp criticism of the administration’s direction.
The crowd gathered before him listened intently as the former presidential candidate revisited the events leading to Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s election as Senegal’s President in March 2024—a victory Sonko himself had championed after his own candidacy was disqualified.
« He was propelled to the highest office, yet he has strayed from the very project that carried him there, risking the aspirations of a nation that had placed its hopes in him, » Sonko declared, highlighting what he described as a betrayal of the public’s trust.
Echoing these concerns, he underscored the gradual divergence between the administration’s actions and the original political manifesto presented to the Senegalese people, framing it as « a promise unfulfilled. » Sonko called for a return to the foundational commitments made to citizens, stressing the need to realign governance with the people’s expectations.
With an unwavering focus on his own role in shaping Senegal’s political shift, Sonko asserted that the 2024 transition was, in large part, the result of his relentless efforts. Looking ahead, he emphasized the significance of the 2026 and 2029 elections as pivotal moments for advancing PASTEF’s political vision.
The remarks come at a time of heightened scrutiny over the relationship between the President and his Prime Minister, though no official response from the administration has been issued.
