Aucun joueur n’est intouchable à Chelsea : la fenêtre de transfert met en péril même les plus grandes stars
Chelsea has experienced a dynamic week in the transfer market, marked by both strategic acquisitions and the careful curation of a departure list, as the club relentlessly pursues its rebuilding efforts for the upcoming season. The management is committed to establishing robust competition across all positions while simultaneously streamlining the squad through sales and loan agreements.
Club academy product Tyreke George has officially completed his move to Everton. The deal is valued at an initial £18 million, with potential add-ons reaching £24 million based on performance clauses. Chelsea has also secured a 15% sell-on clause for any future transfer profit.
Meanwhile, Swiss international Granit Xhaka opted to remain at Sunderland, despite Chelsea’s keen interest and a reported £8 million offer submitted in recent weeks, effectively closing that transfer chapter for the Blues.
On the incoming front, Chelsea has finalized its first summer reinforcement: Italian defender Marco Balestra, arriving from Atalanta. Club officials view Balestra not merely as a future investment but as a player capable of immediately contending for a starting role. This signing underscores Chelsea’s overarching strategy to cultivate intense competition within the squad, rather than simply accumulating players.
Balestra’s recruitment follows an exceptional loan spell at Cagliari, where he was recognized as the best defender in the Italian league. He featured in 38 matches, starting 34, and missed only one fixture, a testament to his readiness to excel in Europe’s elite leagues.
At just 21 years old, the Blues’ hierarchy believes Balestra possesses significant room for growth. According to The Athletic, he is expected to play a substantial number of games next season.
His presence is also anticipated to offer an additional offensive dimension, especially as captain Reece James increasingly operates in deeper roles, either in midfield or as a right-sided central defender in a back-three system. The future of Malo Gusto, meanwhile, remains uncertain, with several prominent clubs, including Manchester City, reportedly monitoring his situation.
Key positions Chelsea aims to strengthen
The London club continues its dedicated efforts to bolster several other critical areas before the transfer window concludes. Negotiations are ongoing with Rayo Vallecano for 28-year-old left-back Pep Chavarria.
The search for one or more central defenders is also a priority, with Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and Jacopo Ramon of Como currently leading the list of potential targets.
Chelsea also maintains its interest in Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for his offensive versatility. However, the club acknowledges that this will be a costly endeavor, as Villa is keen to retain their player, and other suitors are also in the running.
Following Sunderland’s decision to keep Granit Xhaka, Chelsea has moved on from this pursuit and has no plans for a renewed offer. The arrival of Valentin Barco from Strasbourg is still anticipated, although the club has yet to officially confirm the transfer.
Players likely to depart Stamford Bridge
Chelsea is open to considering offers for Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, who joined the club a year ago from Manchester United for £40 million. While the club is not opposed to his departure, they will only entertain a permanent transfer, with two Champions League-qualified teams already expressing interest.
Defender Trevoh Chalobah has also been placed on the market with a £35 million valuation; Chelsea has already rejected two bids from Como. Young full-back Mamadou Sar is expected to be loaned to a Premier League club rather than sent abroad.
Midfielder André Santos could also depart if a satisfactory offer is received, as could Enzo Fernández and Malo Gusto, valued at approximately £120 million and £75 million respectively.
In contrast, João Pedro retains the full confidence of the club, while at least one other forward is expected to leave this summer. The coaching staff has not yet finalized the roles for Nicolas Jackson, William Dalap, and Emmanuel Emiaga for the upcoming season, while Marc Guio’s departure, either on loan or permanently, appears to be a certainty.
The comprehensive list of players available for transfer also includes the defensive duo of Benoît Badiashile and Axel Disasi, along with reserve goalkeeper Philip Jorgensen. Concurrently, the club is negotiating the sales of Gaja Slonina and David Datro Fofana, while also planning loan spells for Kendry Bayes, David Washington, Caleb Wiley, and Shumaira Mahuka to provide them with crucial playing time and experience.
