Between June 23 and June 29, the Malian military successfully secured the passage of 940 civilian transport vehicles heading toward the capital, Bamako. This large-scale operation took place along the strategic Kaïs-Sandari-Diéma-Bamako axis.

A coordinated military operation

The mission began with the protection of 540 trucks traveling from Kaïs to Sandari. During the journey, a secondary military force departing from Diéma joined the operation to reinforce the escort. At this stage, several vehicles that had been immobilized along the route were integrated into the group, bringing the total number of trucks to 940 before the final leg of the trip to Bamako.

Security officials confirmed that the entire convoy reached the capital without any major incidents. The journey involved navigating through several key towns located along this essential transport artery.

Securing vital trade corridors

This military intervention occurs amidst a period of heightened security concerns on various road networks. It also addresses the ongoing challenges regarding fuel supply stability in Bamako, ensuring that essential resources reach the population.

The Kayes-Bamako corridor remains a critical lifeline for the nation, linking the capital to western Mali and providing vital access points to Sénégal and Mauritanie. This route is indispensable for the movement of goods, including petroleum products, food supplies, industrial equipment, and other essential commodities destined for local markets.
