The Union Démocratique du Cameroun (UDC), through its president Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, has voiced grave concern over the reported inhumane treatment and torture of political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang. The political organization issued a firm condemnation of these actions, noting that such practices are strictly prohibited under the Constitution of Cameroun. The UDC maintains that these acts, if confirmed, represent a flagrant violation of fundamental rights and the core principles of the rule of law.

A call for accountability and human rights protection

In a formal communication, the party emphasized that no form of civic involvement or personal dispute can justify the use of violence, cruelty, or degrading treatment. Consequently, the UDC is calling on the authorities to provide full transparency regarding this incident to protect the physical and moral integrity of Jacques Bertrand Mang and to ensure his legal rights are fully upheld.

Jacques Bertrand Mang is widely recognized for his public stance on social inequality, the daily struggles of the people in Cameroun, and matters of national governance. The activist is once again at the center of public attention following an incident at a police station in the city of Douala on June 30, 2026. During a live stream on his Facebook page, he was seen pleading with officers for his release. In response, he was told he could not leave while in an agitated state. Despite his repeated efforts to exit the facility immediately, he was prevented from doing so and told he must wait for the arrival of a superior officer.

Beyond this recent event, Jacques Bertrand Mang has a history of being detained and was previously placed in a medical facility for psychiatric care against his will. His outspoken nature and digital content have also led to various legal complaints filed with judicial authorities. His social media videos frequently target members of the police, gendarmerie, customs, and municipal authorities, as well as government officials and public figures. He is currently being held in police custody.
