Tensions had been steadily escalating between France and Burkina Faso over several months. On June 26, Ouagadougou unequivocally clarified its stance towards the former colonial power, announcing the immediate severance of diplomatic relations with Paris. France has been given a one-week deadline to close its chancellery.
This significant diplomatic move was communicated through an official statement broadcast on the national airwaves of Radiodiffusion – Télévision du Burkina (RTB).
