Ousmane Sonko elected President of Senegal’s National Assembly after dismissal
Just four days after being removed from the position of Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko secured the presidency of Senegal’s National Assembly in a vote held this Tuesday.

Leader of the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (PASTEF), Sonko won 132 out of 133 votes cast, succeeding El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned from the role last Sunday.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as Prime Minister on Monday evening. Lô had previously served as Minister in charge of Monitoring, Guidance, and Evaluation of the “Senegal 2050 National Transformation Program” at the presidency, followed by the role of Secretary-General of the Senegalese government.
