The first major move of the summer for PSG has been confirmed as the club has reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign Gonçalo Ramos for a whopping €74m, excluding bonuses. As a result, attention is being focused on the Portuguese forward’s performances at the World Cup, and his goal against Croatia left no doubt about his quality.

The transfer deal has been met with surprise initially, but now even Italian media outlets are beginning to change their opinion after Ramos’ impressive display in the match that secured Portugal’s qualification for the quarterfinals. The Gazzetta dello Sport is particularly excited to see him in action in Serie A.

Italian Media Already Smitten with Gonçalo Ramos

“Ramos is already smitten: Portugal is at his feet. And Milan is overjoyed… Ramos, the most expensive recruit in AC Milan’s history, will be the cornerstone of the attack, while Leão will be sold because he wants to leave and no longer belongs to the team’s plans. AC Milan has been struggling to find a quality centre-forward for over 20 years. Since Inzaghi and Sheva’s era, there have been only a few exceptions: Ibra and Giroud. The club has had a succession of failures and disappointments: Morata and Origi, Gimenez and Kalinic, Piatek and Füllkrug. It’s as if a curse is hovering over the jersey, a curse that can only be lifted by a magician.

The Right Successor to Inzaghi and Shevchenko?

A similar assessment has been made by another Italian daily, Tuttosport, which is eager to see Gonçalo Ramos donning the Milanese colours: “He was able to elevate himself in the air and score a header that could have changed the destiny of the Portuguese team, even the AC Milan supporters had to rub their hands together. The most impressive match of this World Cup so far saw him come from behind to secure victory. He hadn’t yet made an impression, but he redeemed himself in spectacular fashion.
