During a gathering in Touba this past Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, took a firm stance against Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô by reiterating his threat to initiate a no-confidence motion against the government. As leader of the Pastef party, which holds a commanding majority in the Assembly, Sonko emphasized that constitutional tools remain at his disposal should circumstances demand decisive action.
This latest declaration follows repeated warnings from the Assembly leader that the executive branch would not receive an unconditional mandate. While affirming his commitment to avoid institutional disruption, Sonko’s tone in Touba reflected growing unease amid ongoing political tensions, particularly after the constitutional reform was invalidated and his criticism of President Diomaye Faye intensified.
