A direct challenge to the Pastef leader

The political atmosphere in Senegal remains highly charged, particularly concerning constitutional reform and the intricate relationships between key figures of both the majority and the opposition. This Sunday, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly, a former president of the PDS parliamentary group, launched a blistering attack against Ousmane Sonko.

During a notably aggressive public statement, he characterized the Pastef leader as the “foremost manipulator on the political stage,” criticizing him for adopting contradictory stances and repeatedly making accusations without presenting any substantiating evidence.

Serious allegations across sensitive issues

The former deputy specifically referenced several high-profile cases that have dominated Senegalese political discourse in recent years. These include the contentious Adji Sarr affair, claims of alleged payments of 10 million F CFA to members of parliament, and the widespread rumor of a public account holding an estimated 1,000 billion F CFA.

According to Bara Dolly, these assertions have consistently lacked proof. “The deputies never received the 10 million he spoke of. That was false,” he declared, directly challenging the credibility of Ousmane Sonko’s past statements.

Questioning Sonko’s political consistency

Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly further accused the current President of the National Assembly of abandoning some of his earlier positions. He maintained that Sonko’s political rhetoric has shifted significantly, to the extent of contradicting his initial commitments.

He asserted that the former Prime Minister has gradually moved away from the philosophy of radical change he once championed, instead adopting a stance primarily focused on advancing his own political interests.

Insights into historical political ties

The former PDS parliamentary official also shed light on past relationships between Ousmane Sonko and various political figures, alleging that discussions took place regarding potential electoral alliances.

He further claimed that these talks involved Karim Wade concerning a prospective presidential candidacy, while also stating that Sonko reportedly did not wish for other Pastef leaders to represent the party in such elections.

Constitutional debate central to current tensions

Finally, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly revisited the ongoing controversy surrounding the constitutional revision. He argued that the current debate extends beyond merely President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and directly impacts the institutional stability of the nation.

He believes that certain initiatives presently underway aim to fundamentally alter the architecture of power, a prospect he firmly rejects.

“This is not about Diomaye; it is about the Constitution,” he concluded emphatically.
