In Kinshasa, the C64 coalition has firmly rejected President Félix Tshisekedi’s proposed national dialogue, labeling it a strategic diversion from the pressing challenges confronting Congolese citizens. Opposition leaders assert that the current administration is offering superficial approaches instead of genuinely inclusive national discussions.

Following an extensive five-hour deliberation, opposition figure Martin Fayulu articulated the coalition’s unified stance. He emphasized, “The populace is not deceived. These repeated consultations initiated by Félix Tshisekedi fail to address the critical urgency of ongoing conflict, escalating insecurity, the prevailing health crisis, or the profound social distress experienced by Congolese people. They are merely diverting our nation from its fundamental priorities.”

Opposition leaders contend that President Tshisekedi is “cynically focused” on extending his tenure beyond his second mandate, which concludes in 2028. They allege that the administration is “laying the groundwork for this extension by exploiting the conflict and suffering in the eastern regions of the country as a political commodity.” The C64 coalition stands resolute against what it perceives as Félix Tshisekedi’s ambitions, accusing him of being willing to solidify the balkanization of the nation, even as his current term approaches its end in approximately 754 days.

In response to what it characterizes as a dangerous political deviation, the C64 coalition intends to galvanize public support. The alliance is therefore reiterating its call for a significant national protest march on September 15th, aiming to decisively oppose the maneuvers of the ruling party.
