Among them were Myriam Montrat (Canada), Najeeb Durrani (Pakistan), and George Kofi Nfojoh (Ghana). This formal ceremony underscores Lomé’s commitment to deepening ties with both long-standing allies and emerging global players.

Canada and Togo: Strengthening economic and social bonds

As the first ambassador to be received, Myriam Montrat, Canada’s new envoy, highlighted the robust partnership between Ottawa and Lomé. With a background in inclusive growth at Global Affairs Canada, she outlined her mission’s core priorities.

  • Trade and development: Enhancing bilateral commercial relations while supporting education, healthcare, and gender equality initiatives.
  • Regional security: Emphasizing Canada’s readiness to collaborate with Togo on peacekeeping and stability efforts across West Africa.

Pakistan seeks expanded cooperation with Togo

Najeeb Durrani, Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador, conveyed Islamabad’s eagerness to diversify its engagement with Lomé. A seasoned diplomat with postings in Lebanon and Dubai, he aims to inject fresh momentum into bilateral exchanges.

« We are committed to deepening cooperation in foreign policy, trade, agriculture, and security, » Durrani affirmed. His accreditation aligns with Togo’s strategy to engage more closely with key Asian economies.

Ghana and Togo: A shared vision for regional progress

Representing Ghana, George Kofi Nfojoh underscored the deep cultural and historical ties uniting the two nations. « We are one people, sharing a common heritage, » he stated, stressing the need for joint efforts to uplift local communities.

A former member of parliament with a degree in international relations, Nfojoh praised the seamless cross-border movement of goods and people. Beyond trade, his agenda prioritizes collaborative security measures to address shared regional challenges.
