On May 14, 2026, the École nationale supérieure de police in Porto-Novo served as the venue for the official opening of preparatory courses for several high-level security qualifications. These include the brevet d’études supérieures de sécurité (Bess), the diplôme d’état-major des forces de sécurité (Demes), and the special staff diploma for security forces.

This academic session represents a major milestone in augmenting the capabilities of Bénin’s internal security apparatus. Under the patronage of Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou, who leads the Police Républicaine, the event gathered military leaders, administrative officials, police executives, and academic experts.

The director of the school, Divisional Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, outlined the primary goals of these programs. He emphasized that the training aims to equip officers for senior leadership roles by fostering a forward-looking perspective on local, regional, and international security threats.

“For this session, the École nationale supérieure de police has mobilized highly qualified trainers, including experienced national and international speakers, alongside a pedagogical framework dedicated to your success. The curriculum will focus specifically on police strategy, human and operational resource management, command structures, and internal and cross-border security,” he stated.

Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou highlighted the rigorous standards expected of the future senior officers and the high expectations placed upon them. “These stages constitute a valuable opportunity to sharpen your professional expertise, develop leadership qualities, and prepare for the senior responsibilities that await you tomorrow,” he remarked. He further encouraged the trainees to approach their studies with strict discipline and dedication.

The proceedings concluded with an inaugural lecture delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science from the University of Parakou. The presentation explored the theme of “Rule of law, republican police, and security challenges.”

By initiating these advanced courses, the academy aims to further professionalize the Police Républicaine and cultivate an elite security force capable of addressing modern complexities. This initiative also reflects the commitment of authorities in Bénin to modernize state institutions and enhance public safety.
