The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, acting on instructions from Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, embarked on a Sunday assessment tour of the Nayala province. The mission aimed to gauge the evolving security landscape, boost morale among frontline forces, and address community concerns directly.
With the regional governor of the Bankui area and local administrative leaders in tow, the Minister first engaged with traditional authorities in Toma. This was followed by discussions with provincial administrative chiefs and department heads.
Key challenges highlighted during engagements
The exchanges brought to light persistent hurdles, particularly in healthcare and education sectors, alongside mobility constraints for public officials in certain districts. These discussions underscored the need for sustained support to restore essential services in the province.
Recognition of security forces and community heroes
Throughout the tour, Minister Sana met with Burkina Faso’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), traditional Dozos hunters, and community leaders. He conveyed the President’s commendations to these groups for their role in securing previously troubled areas and facilitating the return of displaced populations.
The Minister praised the bravery, dedication, and professionalism of the armed forces, urging them to maintain high vigilance, discipline, and unity. He emphasized the critical need for stronger collaboration between communities and security forces to reinforce gains made in counter-terrorism efforts.
