Burkina Faso’s Dɛmɛ Sira: a digital leap for national solidarity

In a bold move toward digital governance, Burkina Faso has unveiled Dɛmɛ Sira—a groundbreaking digital platform designed to channel national solidarity into tangible support for vulnerable communities. Launched on June 2, 2026, in Ouagadougou, this initiative marks a significant step in the country’s public policy modernization efforts.

The launch ceremony was led by Lieutenant-Colonel Passowendé Pélagie Kabré/Kaboré, Minister of Family and Social Solidarity, alongside Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications, who served as the event’s patron. The platform’s name, Dɛmɛ Sira, translates to “the path of solidarity” in Mooré, reflecting its core mission.

Dɛmɛ Sira is engineered to empower citizens—both within Burkina Faso and across the diaspora—to directly contribute to social and humanitarian initiatives. By providing a transparent, accessible digital channel, the platform aims to enhance the efficiency and traceability of public solidarity actions, ensuring that support reaches those most in need without delay or ambiguity.

Accessible through the Ministry of Solidarity’s official portal, Dɛmɛ Sira aligns with Burkina Faso’s broader vision of integrating digital tools into public governance. During the launch, Minister Kabré/Kaboré emphasized that this initiative embodies a commitment to building a more inclusive solidarity model, leveraging technology to strengthen social cohesion and public participation.

The platform’s development reflects a collaborative effort between technical teams and government institutions, underscoring the synergy between innovation and public service. By digitizing solidarity, Burkina Faso is not only streamlining contributions but also fostering a culture of transparent, accountable, and citizen-driven social welfare.

This initiative also highlights Africa’s growing embrace of digital public platforms, which are increasingly used not just for administrative services but as catalysts for citizen engagement and social unity. Dɛmɛ Sira stands as a testament to how technology can bridge gaps, unite communities, and amplify collective impact in addressing societal challenges.
