As the Certificat d’Études Primaires (CEP) 2026 approaches, the government of Benin has taken a decisive step to support primary school students during this critical period. Through an official directive, Salimane Karimou, Minister of Preschool and Primary Education, has instructed that school canteens remain operational throughout the examination sessions, scheduled from June 1 to June 4, 2026.

Ensuring uninterrupted meals for exam candidates

The decision applies exclusively to schools already participating in the National Integrated School Feeding Program (PNASI). For these institutions, the midday break will not disrupt the daily meal routine but will instead provide students with a hot, nutritious lunch on-site, just as they receive during regular school days.

Safeguarding academic performance during exams

Minister Salimane Karimou emphasized the importance of maintaining this service to prevent any negative impact on students’ concentration and energy levels. In his memo to departmental directors, he stated:

« Many CEP candidates rely on these daily meals as a fundamental part of their school routine. Withholding them during the exam period could lead to physiological stress, fatigue, or difficulty focusing during the afternoon sessions. »

By prioritizing this continuity, the ministry aims to eliminate any distractions caused by hunger, allowing students to perform at their best.

Rigorous logistics for a seamless service

Coordinating the uninterrupted operation of school canteens across Benin requires meticulous planning. Departmental directors have been tasked with ensuring that meal supplies are adequately stocked and that service providers remain fully operational throughout the four-day examination window. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to viewing school feeding not just as a social service but as a vital component of academic success.

Parents of students in affected schools can rest assured: the canteen services will remain fully active until the final exam papers are submitted on June 4, 2026.
