Chad explores ICT integration in education during UNESCO study mission in Yaoundé
From April 20 to 24, 2026, a high-level delegation from Chad participated in a study mission in Yaoundé to examine best practices in integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into the education system. Hosted by the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa, this initiative reflects the Bureau’s commitment to supporting regional member states in transforming their national education systems.
This mission aligns with Chad‘s strategic vision to modernize its education sector, ensuring inclusive, equitable, and high-quality learning opportunities. Key national frameworks guiding this effort include the National Development Plan 2022–2026, the “Tchad Connexion 2030” initiative, the National Teacher Policy (PNET), and the Tchad School Rebuilding Program (PRET). These initiatives are supported by the Global Partnership for Education and implemented with the assistance of UNESCO and UNICEF.
Addressing structural challenges through digital innovation
With significant structural constraints hampering education delivery, the integration of ICT emerges as a critical lever for improving teaching quality, expanding access, and strengthening governance in Chad‘s education sector. The PRET program aims to introduce a gradual digital transformation through adaptable, accessible, and low-complexity solutions tailored to local realities.
To advance this goal, the Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion of Chad organized this learning mission, drawing insights from Cameroon, a regional leader in educational technology adoption across both formal and non-formal education.
Collaborative exchange and technical insights in Cameroon
The mission agenda featured institutional meetings, technical visits, and interactive workshops with key stakeholders in Cameroon‘s education sector. At the Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB), a technical session brought together specialized departments, academic partners, and institutional leaders. The discussions provided a comprehensive overview of Cameroon’s ICT integration model, covering pedagogical, curricular, organizational, and infrastructural dimensions.
Key topics included teacher training frameworks, digital tools deployed, institutional coordination mechanisms, and partnerships established to support the digital transformation of the education system.
A structured methodology for sustainable change
The mission was grounded in a rigorous methodological approach combining document analysis, stakeholder interviews, field observations, and collaborative working sessions. This process aims to identify success factors, document transferable practices, and adapt learnings to the Chadian context.
The expected outcomes include a detailed mission report, actionable recommendations, and the development of a priority action plan to support the integration of ICT in Chad‘s education system.
Strengthening regional resilience through shared expertise
This initiative underscores the role of the UNESCO Regional Office as a facilitator of cooperation and innovation across Central African states. It also contributes to a broader regional dynamic of knowledge exchange, aimed at establishing sustainable mechanisms for sharing best practices among neighboring countries.
By fostering mutual learning and adaptation of proven solutions, this mission enhances the resilience of education systems and accelerates their digital transformation.
