On behalf of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Vice-Premier Hermann Immongault represented Gabon at the celebrations of Madagascar’s 66th independence anniversary on 26 June in Antananarivo. Alongside other delegation heads, Immongault attended the military parade at the Mahamasina stadium, which highlighted the commitment, patriotism and modernisation of the Malagasy armed forces. The commemoration was held under the theme “reform for the development of Madagascar”.

Immongault’s presence underscored the excellent relations between the Gabonese and Malagasy peoples. It also demonstrated the willingness of Libreville and Antananarivo to further strengthen their exchanges. This follows the visit of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, president of the Malagasy Refoundation, to Libreville from 5 to 7 June. The highlight of that visit was a private meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de Mer. After the talks, Randrianirina expressed his desire to draw inspiration from Gabon’s transition process and praised the achievements made during that period.

In short, by dispatching the government action coordinator to these celebrations, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema reaffirmed the strategic importance Gabon places on rapprochement with the Great Island. The intensification of high-level exchanges between the two countries opens a new era of cooperation, promising in political, diplomatic, cultural and economic development terms.
