The Nigerian army announced on Sunday, June 7, the release of several hundred people who had been kidnapped months earlier by a faction of the jihadist group Boko Haram in the town of Ngoshe, located in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. A video released by the military shows frightened women and children being transported in vans and pickup trucks during the night, later gathered under trees on the ground while surrounded by soldiers. The number of freed individuals varies between 360 and nearly 420, depending on the source.
