Cameroonian influencer’s arrest in Ivory Coast draws public reaction
The detention of popular Cameroonian content creator Elysée le Sneiper in Abidjan has triggered widespread discussions across Cameroon.
The arrest of Cameroonian digital personality Elysée le Sneiper in Abidjan has sparked intense debate on social platforms, with particular attention from his compatriots in Cameroon.
The content creator was detained by Ivorian authorities following allegations of insulting a foreign head of state. The case stems from a three-year-old video that resurfaced during a period of heightened tensions between Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.
In the video, Elysée le Sneiper addressed the controversy directly, issuing a public apology to Ivorian citizens and acknowledging that his remarks had been taken out of context. The apology came as the situation escalated, with growing calls for his release.
In response to the incident, popular Cameroonian comedian Moustik le Karismatik publicly challenged the government to intervene. He specifically called for the Cameroonian embassy in Abidjan to provide immediate consular support and ensure that Elysée le Sneiper’s rights were respected during his detention. The comedian also urged President Paul Biya‘s administration to take diplomatic action to secure the influencer’s safe return to Cameroon.
The case has intensified scrutiny over diplomatic relations between the two West African nations and raised questions about the protection of nationals abroad.
