During a landmark visit to Nouakchott, General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, held a pivotal meeting with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani. The encounter, which took place on Tuesday, was also attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar.

Following the audience with the President, General Berrid proceeded to the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense, where he engaged in productive discussions with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a gesture of deep appreciation, the Minister presented the Moroccan official with the National Order of Merit at the Commander level, awarded on behalf of the Mauritanian Head of State.

The high-level delegation’s program continued with the joint chairing of the 6th Mauritania-Morocco Joint Military Commission by General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff. Both sides reviewed the progress of bilateral military cooperation, highlighting its robust and mutually beneficial nature.

In a joint statement, the military leaders underscored the exceptional outcomes of their collaboration, describing it as a shining example of strategic partnership in the region. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to strengthening defense ties and advancing common security objectives.
