Led by General Mohammed Berrid, the Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, a high-level military delegation concluded a productive working visit to Mauritania. The delegation’s agenda included meetings with senior Mauritanian officials and strategic discussions aimed at deepening bilateral defense cooperation.
Key engagements and exchanges
On the first day, General Berrid was received by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in Nouakchott. The meeting took place in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, as confirmed by a statement from Morocco’s General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
Later that same day, General Berrid visited the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense, where he held talks with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. During the meeting, the Mauritanian Defense Minister presented General Berrid with the National Order of Merit, Commander grade, on behalf of the Mauritanian President, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to military cooperation.
Strengthening defense ties
Following these engagements, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. The discussions focused on evaluating the progress of existing defense partnerships and identifying new avenues for collaboration.
Senior military officials from both nations expressed strong satisfaction with the tangible outcomes of their cooperation, describing it as a benchmark for strategic partnership in the region. They highlighted the concrete results achieved through joint initiatives and underscored the importance of maintaining and expanding this level of engagement.
