Olympique de Marseille prepares for showdown with Atlético Madrid
Ahead of the highly anticipated Ligue 1 kickoff, Olympique de Marseille (OM) will host Spanish giants Atlético Madrid in a final pre-season friendly on Friday, August 14, at the iconic Vélodrome stadium.
Under the guidance of head coach Bruno Génésio, the Phocéens will face the Colchoneros, managed by Diego Simeone, in what promises to be a high-intensity clash. This annual tradition has become a staple of Marseille’s summer preparation, following previous editions against Napoli (2019), Villarreal (2021), AC Milan (2022), Bayer Leverkusen (2023), and Aston Villa (2025).
The fixture, scheduled for 5:30 PM local time, serves as a crucial test for both teams as they fine-tune their squads ahead of the new season. For OM, it’s the last opportunity to evaluate their pre-season work before hosting Strasbourg on August 21 to mark the official return of Ligue 1 action. Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, will face Málaga in their league opener on August 19.
Fans can catch this must-watch friendly live on Ligue 1+, just days after OM’s impressive warm-up clash against Athletic Bilbao on August 9, also broadcast on the platform.
