Senegal’s National Assembly President Pays Tribute to Religious Leader

The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The respected religious figure passed away on July 9, 2026.

In a Facebook post, Sonko expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, honoring Mbacké’s legacy and offering his sympathies to the deceased’s family, the Mouride community’s general Khalife, and the people of Senegal.

« The news of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké’s passing has left me deeply moved and saddened, » Sonko wrote. « As the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, he was a pillar of faith and guidance for many. »

The National Assembly leader also reminisced about his personal encounters with the late religious leader during visits to Guinguinéo. « I had the honor of meeting Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké on several occasions, » he noted. « Each meeting was marked by his warmth, hospitality, and kindness, which left a lasting impression on me. »

Sonko extended his « most sincere condolences » to the deceased’s family, the Mouride community, and the people of Senegal, concluding with a prayer: « May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise. »

Ousmane Sonko
