The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal has taken a dramatic turn months after the match. The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has declared Morocco the tournament’s winner following a decision by its Appeals Committee, reversing the on-field result.

Initially, Senegal secured a 1-0 victory in extra time, but incidents after the final whistle led to the Lions of Teranga being penalized. The CAF cited the Senegalese team’s forfeit due to player and fan misconduct, including a mass walkout from the pitch and pitch invasions by supporters.

In a communiqué, the CAF stated: “The Appeals Committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) has ruled, under Article 84 of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) regulations, to declare the Senegal national team forfeit in the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. The result has been homologated as a 3-0 victory in favor of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).”
