Sahara : la Côte d’Ivoire réaffirme son soutien au plan d'autonomie

Côte d’Ivoire has once again signaled its unwavering commitment to the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the definitive solution to the Sahara dispute. This declaration was made during a regional seminar organized by the United Nations Committee of 24 (C24) in Managua.

The Ivoirian representatives highlighted the initiative’s strong credibility, noting that it has garnered the backing of approximately 130 nations. They emphasized that the proposal is fully aligned with international legal standards and relevant United Nations resolutions, specifically citing the recognition it received in Resolution 2797, passed by the Security Council in 2025.

Political and economic progress in the Southern Provinces

The delegation from Côte d’Ivoire pointed out that this framework empowers the inhabitants of the Southern Provinces to take charge of their own political and economic destinies. The active participation of local leaders in international forums and the regular conduct of democratic elections were cited as clear evidence of this progress.

Furthermore, Abidjan commended the advancements in human rights protections, facilitated by regional commissions and ongoing cooperation with United Nations human rights mechanisms. However, the delegation also voiced serious concerns regarding the humanitarian conditions within the Tindouf camps, reiterating the urgent need for a formal census of the population residing there.

In closing, Côte d’Ivoire reaffirmed its dedication to a political settlement achieved exclusively under the auspices of the United Nations. The delegation urged all involved parties to embrace a spirit of realism and compromise to ensure a lasting and peaceful resolution.
