El-Hadji Diouf, a former football star from Senegal, has been handed a one-year suspended prison sentence by a Dakar district court. The ruling comes after he failed to meet his child support obligations for his daughter.

The court also ordered him to pay 10 million FCFA (approximately €15,244) in damages to his ex-wife, Valérie Émilie Joséphine Leres Bishop, in addition to the suspended sentence.

The case stems from claims that Diouf neglected to pay 9 million FCFA in arrears from March 2024 to September 2025, along with an additional 559,200 FCFA for meal expenses incurred by their daughter.

Back in July 2023, a Senegalese court had already ruled on their divorce, granting custody of their daughter to his ex-wife. At that time, Diouf was ordered to pay a monthly child support of 500,000 FCFA.

A two-time African Ballon d’Or winner (2001 and 2002), Diouf earned 60 caps and scored 18 goals for Senegal’s national team, the Lions of Teranga.
