New fuel price adjustments take effect august 15
Starting this Saturday, August 15, 2026, fuel prices in Senegal are set to rise. The supercarburant will increase by 70 F CFA per liter, while diesel will jump by 75 F CFA. The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum attributes this adjustment to the recent surge in global oil prices, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Global oil market volatility drives local fuel costs
Since July 13, diesel prices have surged by 26.6% on international markets, while supercarburant has climbed by 12%. Since the conflict escalated, these increases have reached 69% for diesel and 61% for supercarburant. The rising costs have placed significant financial strain on Senegal’s fuel subsidies.
State subsidies reduced amid rising fuel expenses
The Senegalese government has been covering over 245 billion F CFA in fuel subsidies since January. To counteract the soaring costs, authorities have decided to revert to the pricing structure that was in place before the December 6, 2025, reduction. As a result, supercarburant will now be priced at 990 F CFA per liter, and diesel at 755 F CFA per liter. Other petroleum products will remain unaffected by this change.
Without this adjustment, the government would have needed an additional 47.27 billion F CFA in subsidies for the period from August 15 to September 12, 2026, according to the official announcement.
