In a decisive statement, Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, addressed the nation regarding the Constitutional Council’s verdict on the constitutional reform bill passed by lawmakers. The leader of the Pastef party acknowledged the ruling of the so-called Sept Sages as binding and final, leaving no room for debate on its validity.
« Beyond the opinions and interpretations that may arise from the reasoning behind this decision, one thing remains clear: this ruling applies to everyone. Case closed, » Sonko declared in an official statement.
He emphasized the importance of institutional roles, asserting that Senegal’s governance functions smoothly when each branch of government operates within its designated authority. « When institutions fulfill their duties as intended, no crisis can emerge, » Sonko remarked.
The Assembly President reaffirmed his commitment to legislative duties, vowing to uphold the trust placed in the institution by the Senegalese people. « The National Assembly will continue to exercise its mandate fully, passing or rejecting laws in service to this resilient and honorable nation, » he affirmed.
