With no Champions League football on the horizon next season, Olympique de Marseille must come to terms with losing key players, including Mason Greenwood. While AS Roma have shown interest in the English striker, Fenerbahçe are determined to take the lead in this transfer saga. A new offer could land within days.

Greenwood’s departure from OM now a matter of when, not if

The question is no longer whether Mason Greenwood will leave OM during the summer transfer window, but when. The English attacker holds the highest market value in the squad, and his sale is necessary for the Marseille club to balance the books. AS Roma, Atlético de Madrid, Fenerbahçe, and Al-Hilal are among the possible destinations. However, OM will not sell Greenwood cheaply, as Manchester United are entitled to 40% of any transfer fee.

Fenerbahçe ready to raise the stakes

Fenerbahçe have already offered €35 million for Greenwood, but OM did not respond. The Turkish club remains undeterred and is expected to table a new bid before the end of the month. Marseille are pushing in this direction and hope to find a swift solution, with the DNCG requesting additional documents before making its decision. AS Roma, meanwhile, have not given up.

What will be the final transfer fee for Greenwood?

The big question now is how much OM will ultimately receive, given the time pressure. A few days ago, journalist Karim Bennati questioned the figures being discussed. “Six months ago, when Greenwood was walking on water, we were talking about much higher amounts. Now, with Marseille’s poor end to the season and his own dip in form, we’re looking at €50 million for OM? Honestly, looking at prices in Europe today, a player who scores 20 goals a season in Ligue 1 is a bargain. If I were OM, I would have triggered the clause that raises the price to €60 million on July 1, and I’d wait a little longer to find a buyer.”
