The Motards du Faso wrapped up their ambitious Grand Tour Régional 2026 on August 11 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, after an epic 10-day journey covering nearly 3,000 kilometers across five West African countries. Departing from the capital on August 2, the team of around 20 riders traversed Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, blending adventure with meaningful road safety advocacy.
Upon their triumphant return, the group was greeted by a festive crowd in Ouagadougou. The journey’s maiden leg left a lasting impression on participants. Leaving Ouagadougou at 4:30 a.m., they arrived in Accra, Ghana, at 3:30 a.m. the following day—23 hours later, including rest stops.
« This initiative is part of our regional tour, which we’ve named the Grand Tour Régional des Motards du Faso 2026. It also aligns with our long-standing mission of fostering camaraderie among riders across the region,» explained president Abel Aziz Konaté. « We wanted to extend greetings to our fellow riders in the countries we visited, many of whom joined us for the 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina we organized in September 2025. »
Clad in protective helmets and branded jackets, the riders navigated diverse landscapes atop gleaming motorcycles, covering over 3,000 km in an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose.
« Our goal was crystal clear: to showcase Burkina Faso’s resilience and determination. We left Ouagadougou on August 2, crossing through Paga before reaching Accra. From Accra, we ventured into Togo and onward to Benin,» Konaté shared.
Beyond the thrill of the ride, the tour served as a platform for road safety sensitization, particularly emphasizing the importance of helmet use. Konaté underscored the team’s commitment to voluntary compliance over enforcement.
« We fully endorse the Ministry of Security’s efforts to promote helmet use. The message is simple: wearing a helmet should be second nature, not something enforced by law. It’s a matter of personal safety,» he stated.
As the roar of engines fades in Ouagadougou, the Motards du Faso are already gearing up for future initiatives. Their mission of raising awareness through two-wheeled advocacy continues unabated.
