Laurent Gbagbo has reshuffled the leadership of Côte d’Ivoire’s Popular Front for the Republic (PPA-CI), assigning five senior figures to key roles within the party.

Initially, the former President had indicated plans to delegate some powers to a single individual. However, the new structure distributes these responsibilities among a carefully selected leadership team, all of whom already held significant positions within the party.

Assoa Adou has been appointed First Vice-President, with a mandate to ensure strict adherence to the party’s guiding principles and strategic direction.

Hubert Oulaye takes on the role of Second Vice-President, overseeing internal party operations and presiding over meetings of the central committee.

Emmanuel Ackah, a former diplomat, has been named Third Vice-President, tasked with energizing and mobilizing PPA-CI’s grassroots networks across the country.

Justin Katinan Koné retains responsibility for overseeing the party’s overall political strategy and policy formulation.

Sébastien Dano Djédjé has been entrusted with leading the party’s Strategic and Political Council, ensuring alignment between policy development and executive decision-making.

Laurent Gbagbo described this restructuring as a shift toward a more collective leadership model, emphasizing the importance of shared responsibilities and unified action in advancing the party’s agenda.

Political analyst Abdourahmane Barry cautions against interpreting this move as a fundamental transformation in the PPA-CI’s governance. He notes that while the five appointees will manage day-to-day operations, the ultimate authority and strategic vision remain firmly in the hands of Laurent Gbagbo, as observed by the sociologist.
