With less than three weeks remaining until its inaugural national congress, the Pastef leadership convened on Friday, May 15, at the Cité Keur Gorgui residence of their esteemed leader, Ousmane Sonko. The primary objective was to chart the course for the party’s most significant structural evolution. Attending this pivotal meeting were prominent figures and crucial lieutenants of the party, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, among others.

The discussions were entirely shaped by the political agenda for the forthcoming weeks. Key deliberations primarily centered on the logistical and political facets of the national congress, which is firmly scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains to be finalized, Diamniadio emerged as a strong possibility for hosting this landmark event.

Sonko is deeply committed to ensuring the resounding success of the congress. The Pastef leader aims to unequivocally demonstrate that the party retains its formidable political influence. He conveyed to his closest confidants, «Il faut réussir le congrès et remobiliser le parti» (We must succeed with the congress and remobilize the party). Beyond the immediate congress, Ousmane Sonko extensively emphasized the critical necessity of restructuring Pastef to enhance its clarity and operational effectiveness.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the vital issue of remobilization. He firmly believes it is imperative to engage directly with communities, reaching even the most remote areas of the country. Concluding the assembly, El Malick Ndiaye, a prominent Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared on his Facebook page that «au-delà des épreuves, de belles perspectives se dessinent pour notre pays et pour notre projet collectif. Des perspectives porteuses d’espoir, de progrès et de souveraineté, que nous continuerons à bâtir ensemble, avec foi, discipline et engagement» (Beyond the trials, beautiful prospects are emerging for our country and for our collective project. Prospects full of hope, progress, and sovereignty, which we will continue to build together, with faith, discipline, and commitment).
