The esteemed religious figure also expressed his intention to acquire a party membership card, publicly confirming his support for the political movement led by Sonko, a key figure in African politics.
Ahead of the revered Mawlid celebration in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as both the President of the National Assembly and the leader of Pastef, undertook a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with various religious guides across the region. During his reception by Serigne Habib Sy, the occasion was seized to openly affirm the religious leader’s affiliation with the ruling party, a notable event in West Africa news.
Addressing his distinguished guest, Serigne Habib Sy unequivocally stated his commitment to formalizing his membership with Pastef. “I identify as a member of Pastef,” he affirmed. “I plan to obtain a membership card very soon, though I am currently unfamiliar with the online registration process.” In response, Ousmane Sonko promptly pledged his assistance, assuring him, “I will personally ensure your membership card reaches you.”
This public declaration from Serigne Habib Sy aligns with his consistent history of civic involvement. The son of the late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh, he had previously joined the “Y en a marre” movement in February 2021.
