Algeria delivers military aid including four helicopters to Niger
Under the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, General Saïd Chanegriha, Acting Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, has facilitated the transfer of a strategic military donation to Niger’s armed forces.
This significant aid package includes four helicopters and a comprehensive set of military equipment, as announced by the Ministry of National Defense. The donation underscores Algeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Niger, particularly in the defense and security sectors.
The transfer, executed on Sunday, August 9, 2026, involved two Mi-24V attack helicopters and two Mi-171 utility helicopters. These aircraft departed from the In Gezzam secondary deployment base in the 6th Military Region, heading directly to Niamey’s international airport. Alongside the helicopters, essential resources such as ammunition, spare parts, and logistical support equipment were airlifted via Algeria’s military transport aircraft to ensure operational readiness.
The Ministry emphasized that this initiative reinforces the historical and fraternal ties between Algeria and Niger. It also highlights Algeria’s ongoing dedication to regional stability and security, aligning with collaborative efforts to address shared challenges in the Sahel.
The donation is seen as a tangible contribution to the collective efforts aimed at combating terrorism and enhancing security frameworks across West Africa. By sharing military expertise and resources, Algeria reaffirms its role as a key partner in regional defense and development.
