Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno delivered a firm statement on Facebook, vowing to intensify efforts against a persistent threat. « We will continue this fight with renewed determination until this menace is completely eradicated », he declared on May 5th, highlighting the urgency of the situation following a recent attack.
The assault targeted a military base in Barka Tolorom, located on the Chadian side of Lake Chad. The assault, attributed to a faction of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, resulted in 24 casualties among national armed forces, underscoring the group’s escalating threat in the region.
