On Tuesday, Gabonese Head of State Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema confirmed during an interview that he will undertake an official visit to France on July 20, 2026.

While details remain sparse, this trip is expected to deepen the ongoing dialogue between Libreville and Paris, particularly on pressing bilateral issues. The agenda will likely cover economic cooperation, environmental protection, Congo Basin forest management, vocational training, and regional security challenges.

Since assuming office in August 2023, President Oligui Nguema has visited France once—from May 27 to May 31, 2024—where he held discussions with French officials. That visit concluded with a meeting at the Élysée Palace with President Emmanuel Macron, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties across economic, political, commercial, and environmental spheres, with a special focus on biodiversity conservation and climate action.

His 2024 trip also featured a Franco-Gabonese economic forum in Paris, bringing together nearly 600 business leaders, and included meetings with the Gabonese diaspora. The upcoming July 2026 visit will mark his second official state visit to France.

Macron’s visit to Libreville in 2025

French President Emmanuel Macron has made two official trips to Gabon since 2017, most recently attending the One Forest Summit in Libreville from November 23 to 24, 2025.

The French leader was personally received at Léon-Mba International Airport by President Oligui Nguema. The visit aimed to recognize the completion of Gabon’s political transition and support the country’s renewed leadership, emphasizing a reinvigorated partnership built on mutual respect and equal footing.

During his stay, Macron and Oligui Nguema advanced several key initiatives, including the training of Gabonese security forces, the establishment of a natural resource protection academy, and French assistance in upgrading the Transgabonais railway.

With this new diplomatic engagement scheduled for July 2026, President Oligui Nguema is signaling Gabon’s intent to foster a balanced and forward-looking relationship with France. Following his May 2024 visit to Paris and Macron’s November 2025 trip to Libreville, this upcoming meeting underscores the accelerating pace of cooperation between the two nations.
