State authorities refute speculations over President Biya’s health
Cameroon’s government has categorically denied recent rumors suggesting President Paul Biya’s demise or a power vacuum at the helm of the state. In a statement delivered through government spokesperson and Minister of Communication René Emmanuel Sadi, authorities confirmed that the Head of State remains alive and continues to fulfill his duties, despite an extended stay abroad.
The minister, speaking in a press briefing, emphasized that Paul Biya is in good health and has not resigned from office. While acknowledging the President’s temporary absence from Cameroon, Sadi clarified that this cannot be interpreted as a vacancy in leadership, as the nation’s institutions continue to operate seamlessly under established constitutional procedures.
Addressing concerns about Biya’s whereabouts, the spokesperson confirmed the President is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, where he recently underwent a medical procedure. Sadi specified that Biya is not hospitalized but is recovering privately, adding that a precise return date has not been disclosed to maintain security protocols and personal privacy.
Constitutional safeguards ensure uninterrupted governance
The Minister of Communication underscored that Cameroon’s democratic framework remains intact, with all key administrative positions actively filled. He reassured citizens that the Council of Constitutionality, the sole body empowered to declare a power void, has not issued any such declaration. According to Sadi, the absence of any official announcement from this body confirms the continuity of Biya’s leadership.
While the government did not reveal the nature of the medical intervention, it reiterated that Biya’s temporary relocation is part of a carefully managed process to ensure his well-being and the stability of the nation. The administration has urged the public to disregard unverified claims and await official communications regarding the President’s return.
