SOLIBRA has unveiled the ECO BOX initiative, a groundbreaking project designed to combat plastic pollution and foster a sustainable circular economy in Treichville. The launch coincided with World Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3, 2026.
Treichville was selected as the pilot site due to its high daily output of plastic waste, which clogs drainage systems and strains sanitation infrastructure. The ECO BOX project aims to convert this waste into valuable resources through an organized collection and recycling system.
Partnerships driving change
The initiative is a collaborative effort between SOLIBRA, the J’Adore Foundation of Treichville, and BIRWAST, a leading plastic waste recycling company. Together, they are working to enhance waste management, protect urban environments, and unlock new economic opportunities for local communities.
Equipment and workforce mobilization
To kickstart operations, the project team received essential tools, including six wheelbarrows, a collection tricycle, 80 garbage bags, twelve rakes, gloves, shovels, and traditional brooms.

The ECO BOX project sets out to achieve several critical goals:
- Gradually eliminate plastic waste from drainage systems to minimize flood risks
- Create job opportunities for local youth as waste collectors and drivers
- Transform collected plastics into reusable materials through recycling
- Educate residents on proper waste sorting and sanitation practices
Launch ceremony highlights
The official kickoff featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the project’s launch. Following the event, the first collection tricycle was handed over to a local agent, who will begin patrolling Treichville’s streets to gather plastic waste.
