Three years after arriving at Stade de Reims, goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is heading to England. The Reims club officially announced his transfer to Premier League side Newcastle United on Wednesday, June 10.
It is now confirmed: Ewen Jaouen is leaving Stade de Reims. The club from Reims made the announcement on Wednesday, June 10, regarding his move to Newcastle United in the English top division. The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined the Rouge et Blanc three years ago. With this transfer, he enters the top 15 most highly valued goalkeepers in football history.
After several loan spells, the player delivered an outstanding first full season with Stade de Reims this year. Keeping 15 clean sheets, the goalkeeper achieved the best performance across both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 this season. In its statement, the club from the Champagne region praised him as “one of the most promising last lines of defence in French football.” Having made his debut for France Under-21 this year, the young Breton “impresses with his reflex saves, composure on the ball, and great maturity.”
A commitment to young footballers in the Marne
Stade de Reims had placed faith in him since 2023. After starting the season with the Pro 2 group, the goalkeeper went out on several loans, notably with Rodez. At the club from Aveyron, he became the youngest starting goalkeeper in the five major European leagues and their second divisions at age 18. The following season, he joined the Dunkerque squad, helping his team reach the Coupe de France semi-finals.
Beyond his on-field role, Ewen Jaouen was dedicated to the young players of AS Gueux, whom he coached several times a week. When his schedule allowed, he also accompanied them to weekend matches across the department. Just before his departure, the children came to spend one last moment with him at the Raymond Kopa training centre.
