State Visit Strengthens Gabon-Gambia Bilateral Ties
The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, arrived yesterday in Banjul, Gambia’s capital, for a four-day official visit. He was warmly received by Gambian counterpart Adama Barrow, with whom he held a private meeting. This was followed by bilateral discussions at the official residence to review existing cooperation areas and explore fresh avenues for partnership. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties between Gabon and Gambia and fostering sustainable economic growth. A second meeting is scheduled later today.
This visit, aimed at reinforcing the Libreville-Banjul axis, also includes visits to key government facilities and historical sites. Among the planned stops are the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, and the renowned Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.
Economic Partnerships and Cultural Exchange
Highlighting the visit was a state banquet hosted by President Barrow in honor of his Gabonese guest. Gambia’s economy, driven by tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade, has seen a 6.1% real GDP growth, supported by a thriving services sector, according to recent economic indicators.
This official trip is part of a broader continental tour by Gabon’s head of state, focusing on West African nations.
